Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language Announces Opening Registration for its Eighth Edition
● Allocating nearly AED 2.8 million (USD 770,000) cash prizes to the winners
● Prizes to be distributed as AED 257,000 (USD 70,000) for each category
● Updating a few nomination requirements for the eighth edition
● The award features five pillars with a total of 11 categories
Dubai, UAE, 15 January 2024:
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language, which is part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and organised by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library, announced the opening of registration for its eighth edition, set to continue until 29 March 2024. The announcement was made during a press conference.
His Excellency Bilal Al Budoor, Secretary-General of the Award, said: “As part of our commitment to supporting and promoting the Arabic language, we are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the new edition of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language. This award is a key pillar in our strategy to revive the Arabic language and reaffirm its vital role in culture and knowledge across the world.”
Al Budoor added: “Through this initiative, we seek to build bridges of communication between the Arabic language and various communities, by motivating participants to find innovative solutions that contribute to facilitating learning and teaching Arabic, and enhancing its presence in international forums.”
Al Budoor concluded: “We believe that the Arabic language, with its richness and historical depth, contributes to fostering dialogue between different cultures. Hence, we are inviting researchers, academics, innovators, and all those interested in the Arabic language to participate in this award, not only to highlight their excellence and their creativity, but to contribute to shaping a bright future for the Arabic language.”
The Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language allocated nearly AED 2.8 million (USD 750,000), to be distributed as AED 257,000 (USD 70,000) for each category, within the pillars of education, technology, media, Arabisation, and preservation and dissemination of the Arab linguistic heritage.
The award categories are: Best way to teach and learn Arabic in early education; Best initiative for teaching Arabic in school education (Grades 1 to 12); Best initiative to teach Arabic to non-Arabic speakers; Best initiative in using social networking or intelligent technical application for learning and publishing Arabic; Best initiative to develop and publish Arabic digital content or Arabic language processors; Best work in Arabic language in electronic and social media; Best language policy and planning initiative; Best localisation or translation project; Best artistic, cultural or intellectual work to serve the Arabic language; Best initiative to promote reading culture and knowledge society.
Those wishing to register and participate in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language can visit the official website to learn about the registration conditions and categories. The work submitted for participation must not be less than one year old and no more than 5 years old. The work submitted to participate in the award has not won in other awards in the same year. The initiative has not been submitted to other awards in the same year. The initiative submitted must not be a university action in which the applicant has earned a degree.
The award stipulates adherence to the criteria set in the registration form for each category of the award, and attachment of supporting evidence and documents whenever possible, in addition to submitting the work within the specified time. No more than one work may be submitted for each edition of the award.
Participants must fill in the electronic participation form and submit the participating works through the award website. The award team reserves the right to withdraw or cancel the participation of any initiative or project that does not meet the submission requirements. Furthermore, the Board of Trustees of the award reserves the right to withdraw the award from any party that has been awarded or has previously been nominated to win in the event of a violation of the terms of the award, a breach of intellectual property, or any other reason considered by the Board of Trustees to be a fundamental and mandatory breach of the withdrawal of the award. Jury members and the Board of Trustees are not allowed to participate in the award directly or indirectly.
The previous editions of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Award for Arabic Language witnessed huge participation and success from individuals and institutions globally. Since its launch, the award has received more than 8,000 submissions, and over 60 winners. The previous edition alone attracted more than 1,300 submissions. The award allows individuals, teams, and institutions to choose one out of eleven categories that fall under five main pillars.
Driven by its vision and strategy to promote Arabic language, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library organises this award to support and enhance the status and role of the Arabic language, and encourage individuals and institutions to contribute effectively to its development and dissemination.
